Avon Breast Cancer Walk

My wife, Beth, is participating in the Avon Breast Cancer walk in Chicago in June. She signed up because a close friend of ours (Patrick's godmother in fact) had been battling cancer since 2002. In March our friend, Katie, passed away, putting this all in a whole new perspective.

You can read Katie's CaringBridge Journal here to learn more about her. She was an amazing person, a wonderful friend, a fabulou s mom, and leaves behind family and so very many friends that miss her every day.

If you've read my blog, you've probably seen pictures of her girls, and you may have even seen the details on the Theta Phi Epsilon Friendship walk that we helped organize at UD last year in Katie's honor as well.

Here's a letter from wife. Not only would she appreciate it, but I would be forever greatful if you gave it a look and if you feel like supporting her, even better! Thanks in advance!

Hello friends,

A few months ago I decided to take on the challenge of walking 391/2 miles for the Avon Breast Cancer walk in Chicago in June. The deadline for donations is approaching and I'm trying to raise at least $1800 to qualify for the walk. I set a goal of $2000 formyself and am very far away from reaching it. Some people haveraised over $15,000, but this is the first year so I said "startsmall".I lost a dear friend Katie (Kushlak) Rader to Breast Cancer a few weeks ago. My mother, mother-in-law and aunt are all survivors. I had signed up for this walk in order to offer Katie support and try to fund research that would help discover ways to cure BreastCancer, and it never occurred to me that she would not be here to cheer me on. I miss her so very much. All of us have known someone or loved someone who has suffered from this awful disease, and want to help in any way we can.

This is also a huge physical challenge for me. As many of you know,I am not the most athletic person in the world, but I am excited to have the accomplishment of walking for two straight days and raising money for a cause that is close to my heart. I know people are always asking for money but if you would like tomake a tax deductible pledge to help me make my goal please visit my website below. It is a secure site run through the Avon Corporation.

Let me know if you have problems with the site. If you would like to donate by check, please email me (ed note: post a comment and I'll pass it on) and I will give you the details on how to do so. Please forward this to anyone else you think would like to contribute.

Love to you all,
Beth

Happy times in Florida

OK, so the month of March had its ups and downs, but the ups were a lot of fun. We had a great time in Florida visiting my parents, and the boys got the chance to play on the beach, swim in the pool, and a host of other warm weather activities. Hope you enjoy pictures of silly Owen running around with his swim turtle on his head, Mom and Patrick splashing in the Gulf, the boys building sand castles, and Owen mixing up some sort of wondrous concoction. I just can't WAIT for spring to come!!!!
